Double Page Spread Article.

Question and Answers.

Where did you get the name for your band from? Does it have a deeper meaning?

Gemma: Well the band is called ‘the only exceptions’  because as you can tell where the only people who can get away with the rock ‘n’ roll s**t that we do. (Laughs)
Jodie: Well it does have a deeper meaning, it’s from one of our favourite bands ‘paramore’  it’s one of there lyrics that really spoke to me when I first heard it.

How did it feel when your single ‘It's only you forever’ got to number one in UK charts?

Gemma: Well me and Jodie were actually at our house just chilling after a busy day when we heard the news, when it got announced we jumped up and started dancing around the room like crazy manics (Laughs)
Jodie: Then we invited everyone we know round, had a little party and a lot to drink. All good times. Oh yeah and I also rang my mum, of course.

You’ve shot to fame so quickly, no one had never heard of you and you now have a number one single under your belt, how have you cope with this sudden launch into fame?

Jodie: Well we’d tried so hard to make it, it’s been a tough 2 years but for our single to enter the chart let alone straight to number one, it’s just been so amazing. I love the life we’ve been giving and I’m loving this rock ‘n’ roll life style.
Gemma: Rock ‘n’ Roll damn right, we could start trouble in an empty room. We just wanna say thank you to the fans, we would of never made it without them, We love them so much, And love the support they give us.

Since you are now a world known band, do you have crazy fans?

Jodie: (laughs) world known wow, that is just seriously mind blowing. And we love our fans, but you know they are a little crazy, we usually write back to them by hand, but as you can imagine it takes a hell of a long time. It just something to do when your travelling from on venue to another, or to an interview. We will probably still replying till where like 50.
Gemma: What do you mean babe, we will still be rocking out when were 50.
Jodie: What in our skin tight jeans and our newly died hair?
Gemma: Yeah, of course.

Do they ever send you strange gifts?

Gemma: oh hell yeah, one sent me a fried egg, when I said I ate them as a snack on busy days.
Jodie: yeah there’s a few strange ones, but you get the good ones. They sometimes send us clothes if we talked about shops that we like in interviews, Just a note to you guys, you don’t have to that, save your money.
Gemma: I’d once been sent a wedding ring, But I said I wanted to see the world (laughs) and sent him the ring back, He wasn’t too pleased.

Would you be able to hint to us about the new albums contents?
Jodie: Well we are trying to keep it under the covers, We want our debut album to be amazing, something that will really put us down in history. All the songs mean a lot to us, and the lyrics are not just words, they are just like part of our lives and they mean what they say really.
Gemma: Yeah, after all this fame and new life style our album is just taking us back to our roots and bringing us back down to Earth. Shows everybody that we are still people who’ve been through the bad and good.

Any interesting album artwork?

Gemma: Haa! It’s real embarrassing.
Jodie: It’s not that bad, Basically there’s no fancy studio shots no special effects, it’s just pictures that we’ve taken ourselves made into a major collage. Just pictures of our home live, our pictures we’ve taken while at parties and at concerts.

So why is it embarrassing?

Gemma: Well, there maybe childhood pictures on the cover aswell, and Jodie may look like a boy.
Jodie: That was just tight that babe.
Gemma: You know I’m joking.

What other artists would you mostly compare yourself to?

Jodie: Well one of our main inspirations is ‘paramore’  we love their music and style. We also love Hayley’s alternative style.
Gemma: We love loads of music we take music form all area’s of music that we love and just turn it into our own style. As we enjoy all of it, it makes it a pleasure to perform and record.

Are you thinking about touring? And if yes, what would you call this tour?

Gemma: Well I’m not sure whether we can say at the moment.
Jodie: Just say it, it will be fine. We can handle the producers.
Gemma: Oh well then,
Both: Yes! We are.
Jodie: I can’t wait, we are actually full on excited. It will be sometime next year. We will actually do a student discount as well. As struggling students need to see gigs, it’s a way of live and most of them can’t afford to go to go and they miss out.
Gemma: Yeah, we would hate for our main audience to miss out, after all they are the guys who made us.

Now that you have fame status, Any famous stars you got your eye on?

Jodie: Ahh, well of course we do. Guys such as ermm Johnny Knoxville. He’s fit. (laughs)
Gemma: Oh well I wouldn’t mind a piece of Enrique Iglesias, but unfortunately he’s taken.

Aww, do you think you’d have pretty children?

Jodie: Oh yeah of course we would.
Gemma: Oh, I couldn’t comment, he’s not single.

Now you have all this extra cash, you thinking of updating your pad?
Jodie: Well our house is pretty awesome as it is. Has all we need, but I think we can now have some super luxury items.
Gemma: Well maybe we could have a pinball machine, a major stereo with speakers in every room, even the bathroom. (laughs)

So no adding a fish tank in the wall?

Gemma: That would actually awesome.
Jodie: but I’d never be able to eat fish and chips again, they’d see me and I’d feel bad.

What CD is in you CD player at the moment?

Jodie: Oh well before we came today we was listening through the new script album, it's really good because they are quite an emotional band, with the strong meanings to thier songs.

What song can’t you stop listening to on your iPod?

Jodie: Well young guns - weight of the world.
Gemma: I can stop listening to Brightwood - Sit Still.

When your drunk, what song do you love singing on karaoke?

Jodie: Well to be honest I think when me and gem are drunk we both rock out to paramore misery business, it’s one of those songs we can really give everything too.

What was the first album you bought?

Jodie: It was probably something really bad, like steps or the spice girls, even though they were pretty cool.
Gemma: Yeah I think mine was like S club 7, they were popular in my day, (Laughs)

If you could swap places with any celeb, who would it be?

Gemma: Oh mine would have to be someone like Cheryl Cole, so I can see all of her secrets and see if the stuff the print in the magazines has any truth in it at all.
Jodie: I would love to swap with someone like Victoria Beckham, so I could find out what it’s actually like inside their house and world. And so I could get a close up of David.

My Front Cover - Step Three

This is my front cover up to now, Since my last post I have added the sub headlines, the issue number, price and date, I have also changes the position of the word 'interview' as it is now more clear in it's new place as most of the word is placed in the darkness and the letter W is now placed on her skin not the light coloured jeans.

My Front Cover - Step Two

This is my cover so far, I like the positioning of the headline and I like how it is set out. However I am concerned about the font, and especially the colour. The word 'The' Is clearly visible however the word 'interview' is not so clear over the light coloured jeans.

Headline Story Idea's

These are the idea's I have for my headline stories that will be placed on my front cover ...

  • The Only Exceptions have jumped to fame.
  • The Only Exceptions leaped into charts.
  • The Only Exceptions Interview.
  • These guys aint' the only exception.

My Front Cover - Step One

So far for my front cover, I have choosen the picture that I believe works well as a front cover. The picture shows energy and fun as this is what the band is all about and this is what I want my magazine to promote.
I have also chosen the name for my magazine and chosen the type face that it will be printed in. and the placement of it.

More Pictures ...

These are pictures that I have taken before this coursework, but I still believe they will come and useful for this topic on my contents page.

Pictures I have Taken.

These are the pictures I have taken for this area of coursework, I haven't chosen yet the final pictures that will be used for my front cover, contents or double page spread.

Draft of Double page spread.

This is my first basic draft of my double page spread, this would be the first page, that would be placed on the left hand side of the magazine, I have seen this in many magazine that the publishers have a large picture of the artist on one side of the article as it would not work in the middle as the fold of the magazine would remove half of the picture.

This is my first basic draft of my double page spread, this would be the second page, and if put into my publication the page that would appear on the right hand side of the spread, When there is a main picture on one side this is usually what appears on the opposite side so the readers know who and what they article is about.

Photographic research.

The people who I have requested to be in my photograph for my magazine front cover are two young females who believe have the look that I am aiming to achieve. I have searched bands, that have two - three people in them so I am able to make comparisons and get inspiration from them.

The Sugababes. I like the composition of this picture, I also love the fact that they are all wearing an item of the same yellow colour.

The Sugababes. I also like this picture as the are all at different levels and not all stood straight. Also they are all wearing different types of clothing showing there individuality's.

The King Blues - I like this picture due to the fact that there is a ember in the forefront and that the other members are behind, like they are peering around the main member.

Girl in a coma - I like this picture, it is similar to the picture above (The King Blues) that there is a main member in the centre of the photograph however this time the members behind her are not looking into the camera at all. One is looking to the side and the other downwards I think this gives more depth to the picture and makes it look more interesting.

Girl in a coma - I like this picture as it is set in a real life setting and looks like they have just randomly sat down there instead of them been fixed in a pose in front of a white screen.

Muse - I like this picture as this is also on a real life setting, but this picture incorporates action, as they all have a foot of the ground giving the the look of walking his jacket is also moving showing that they could be moving quite fast, showing that the band have direction, and know where there going.
