Where did you get the name for your band from? Does it have a deeper meaning?
Gemma: Well the band is called ‘the only exceptions’ because as you can tell where the only people who can get away with the rock ‘n’ roll s**t that we do. (Laughs)
Jodie: Well it does have a deeper meaning, it’s from one of our favourite bands ‘paramore’ it’s one of there lyrics that really spoke to me when I first heard it.
How did it feel when your single ‘It's only you forever’ got to number one in UK charts?
Gemma: Well me and Jodie were actually at our house just chilling after a busy day when we heard the news, when it got announced we jumped up and started dancing around the room like crazy manics (Laughs)
Jodie: Then we invited everyone we know round, had a little party and a lot to drink. All good times. Oh yeah and I also rang my mum, of course.
You’ve shot to fame so quickly, no one had never heard of you and you now have a number one single under your belt, how have you cope with this sudden launch into fame?
Jodie: Well we’d tried so hard to make it, it’s been a tough 2 years but for our single to enter the chart let alone straight to number one, it’s just been so amazing. I love the life we’ve been giving and I’m loving this rock ‘n’ roll life style.
Gemma: Rock ‘n’ Roll damn right, we could start trouble in an empty room. We just wanna say thank you to the fans, we would of never made it without them, We love them so much, And love the support they give us.
Since you are now a world known band, do you have crazy fans?
Jodie: (laughs) world known wow, that is just seriously mind blowing. And we love our fans, but you know they are a little crazy, we usually write back to them by hand, but as you can imagine it takes a hell of a long time. It just something to do when your travelling from on venue to another, or to an interview. We will probably still replying till where like 50.
Gemma: What do you mean babe, we will still be rocking out when were 50.
Jodie: What in our skin tight jeans and our newly died hair?
Gemma: Yeah, of course.
Do they ever send you strange gifts?
Gemma: oh hell yeah, one sent me a fried egg, when I said I ate them as a snack on busy days.
Jodie: yeah there’s a few strange ones, but you get the good ones. They sometimes send us clothes if we talked about shops that we like in interviews, Just a note to you guys, you don’t have to that, save your money.
Gemma: I’d once been sent a wedding ring, But I said I wanted to see the world (laughs) and sent him the ring back, He wasn’t too pleased.
Would you be able to hint to us about the new albums contents?
Jodie: Well we are trying to keep it under the covers, We want our debut album to be amazing, something that will really put us down in history. All the songs mean a lot to us, and the lyrics are not just words, they are just like part of our lives and they mean what they say really.
Gemma: Yeah, after all this fame and new life style our album is just taking us back to our roots and bringing us back down to Earth. Shows everybody that we are still people who’ve been through the bad and good.
Any interesting album artwork?
Gemma: Haa! It’s real embarrassing.
Jodie: It’s not that bad, Basically there’s no fancy studio shots no special effects, it’s just pictures that we’ve taken ourselves made into a major collage. Just pictures of our home live, our pictures we’ve taken while at parties and at concerts.
So why is it embarrassing?
Gemma: Well, there maybe childhood pictures on the cover aswell, and Jodie may look like a boy.
Jodie: That was just tight that babe.
Gemma: You know I’m joking.
What other artists would you mostly compare yourself to?
Jodie: Well one of our main inspirations is ‘paramore’ we love their music and style. We also love Hayley’s alternative style.
Gemma: We love loads of music we take music form all area’s of music that we love and just turn it into our own style. As we enjoy all of it, it makes it a pleasure to perform and record.
Are you thinking about touring? And if yes, what would you call this tour?
Gemma: Well I’m not sure whether we can say at the moment.
Jodie: Just say it, it will be fine. We can handle the producers.
Gemma: Oh well then,
Both: Yes! We are.
Jodie: I can’t wait, we are actually full on excited. It will be sometime next year. We will actually do a student discount as well. As struggling students need to see gigs, it’s a way of live and most of them can’t afford to go to go and they miss out.
Gemma: Yeah, we would hate for our main audience to miss out, after all they are the guys who made us.
Now that you have fame status, Any famous stars you got your eye on?
Jodie: Ahh, well of course we do. Guys such as ermm Johnny Knoxville. He’s fit. (laughs)
Gemma: Oh well I wouldn’t mind a piece of Enrique Iglesias, but unfortunately he’s taken.
Aww, do you think you’d have pretty children?
Jodie: Oh yeah of course we would.
Gemma: Oh, I couldn’t comment, he’s not single.
Now you have all this extra cash, you thinking of updating your pad?
Jodie: Well our house is pretty awesome as it is. Has all we need, but I think we can now have some super luxury items.
Gemma: Well maybe we could have a pinball machine, a major stereo with speakers in every room, even the bathroom. (laughs)
So no adding a fish tank in the wall?
Gemma: That would actually awesome.
Jodie: but I’d never be able to eat fish and chips again, they’d see me and I’d feel bad.
What CD is in you CD player at the moment?
Jodie: Oh well before we came today we was listening through the new script album, it's really good because they are quite an emotional band, with the strong meanings to thier songs.
What song can’t you stop listening to on your iPod?
Jodie: Well young guns - weight of the world.
Gemma: I can stop listening to Brightwood - Sit Still.
When your drunk, what song do you love singing on karaoke?
Jodie: Well to be honest I think when me and gem are drunk we both rock out to paramore misery business, it’s one of those songs we can really give everything too.
What was the first album you bought?
Jodie: It was probably something really bad, like steps or the spice girls, even though they were pretty cool.
Gemma: Yeah I think mine was like S club 7, they were popular in my day, (Laughs)
If you could swap places with any celeb, who would it be?
Gemma: Oh mine would have to be someone like Cheryl Cole, so I can see all of her secrets and see if the stuff the print in the magazines has any truth in it at all.
Jodie: I would love to swap with someone like Victoria Beckham, so I could find out what it’s actually like inside their house and world. And so I could get a close up of David.
